USF TGH Family Medicine Residency
Curriculum
A comprehensive three-year ACGME-accredited curriculum designed to produce well-rounded, confident family physicians ready to lead in any practice setting.
Rotation Schedule
Intern Year — Foundational Training
Build core clinical skills across inpatient medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, and surgery. 1–2 half days per week in continuity clinic.
Second Year — Breadth & Depth
Expand clinical breadth and develop teaching and leadership skills. At least 2 half days per week in continuity clinic.
Third Year — Leadership & Mastery
Take on senior supervisory roles, pursue scholarly work, and refine your independent practice. At least 2 half days per week in continuity clinic.
Continuity Clinic
- Located at USF Health Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare
- PGY-1: 1–2 half days per week
- PGY-2 & PGY-3: at least 2 half days per week
- Longitudinal patient panel maintained across all three years
- Integrated behavioral health, pharmacy, and social work support
ACGME Duty Hours
- Maximum 80 hours per week averaged over 4 weeks
- No more than 24 consecutive hours on duty (+ 4 hours for transitions)
- At least 1 day free from duty in 7 averaged over 4 weeks
- Minimum 8 hours off between scheduled duty periods
- In-house call no more frequently than every third night

PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents have up to 24 weeks of elective time across the two years. Choose from:

Core Curriculum Features
Continuity Clinic
Residents maintain a longitudinal panel of patients throughout all three years, building lasting relationships and mastering the full scope of outpatient family medicine.
Wednesday Didactics
Weekly protected academic half-day with case presentations, board review, faculty lectures, evidence-based medicine sessions, and journal club.
Procedural Training
Hands-on training in skin procedures, joint injections, IUD/Nexplanon placement, laceration repair, and more — with simulation lab access.
Scholarly Activity
Every resident completes a scholarly project — quality improvement, clinical research, case reports, or medical education work — with faculty mentorship.
Point-of-Care Ultrasound
Longitudinal POCUS training across all three years, building diagnostic competency for the office and bedside.
Behavioral Health Integration
Dedicated behavioral health training with Dr. Wendy Hahn, Psy.D., including integrated care models, motivational interviewing, and collaborative management.
